Using Scent for a Better Cold Plunge Routine

Using Scent for a Better Cold Plunge Routine

Jul 29, 2025Anthony Tori

Cold plunges are no longer just for elite athletes or hardcore biohackers. They’ve become a core ritual for founders, creatives and anyone seeking a mental edge. But there’s a difference between simply doing a cold plunge and using it as a daily reset.

The secret? Intention. And one of the most effective ways to set intention is through scent.

We believe performance starts with calm. That’s why we use the Pause blend before every plunge. It helps ground the nervous system, reduce mental resistance and create a sense of control before stepping into the cold.

Why Cold Plunges Work

Just two to three minutes in cold water can:

  • Increase dopamine levels and sharpen focus

  • Reduce inflammation and support recovery

  • Build mental resilience and discipline

  • Shift you into a state of presence

It’s a full reset for your body and mind.

The Common Mistake: Rushing Into the Cold

Most people treat cold plunges like a mental sprint. They blast music, hype themselves up or gulp coffee, then jump straight in. It spikes their system even more.

That’s not resilience. That’s panic in disguise.

The kimorii Approach: Layer in Calm First

Before the plunge, take a moment.

  • Smell Pause directly from the bottle

  • Inhale slowly for four counts

  • Hold

  • Exhale for four counts

  • Repeat 3–5 times

The hinoki grounds you like a walk through a quiet forest. The yuzu lifts your mood just enough to ease tension. Together, they prepare your body and mind to meet the cold with clarity, not shock.

Why High Performers Are Turning to Scent

Top performers aren’t just doing more. They’re doing things with better intention.

By adding scent to your cold plunge ritual, you create:

  • A consistent anchor that signals readiness

  • A nervous system that’s centered, not panicked

  • A mental shift from “just get through it” to “be fully in it”

Cold plunges already build resilience. The Pause blend makes the experience smoother, more focused, and more aligned with the calm you’re trying to carry into your day.

Try It Tomorrow

  1. Apply the Pause blend

  2. Breathe deeply for a few minutes

  3. Step into the ice

  4. Reflect for 60 seconds afterward

Make your cold plunge more than just a challenge. Make it a calm, focused moment that sets the tone for your day.

*The cold plunge pictured in this post was one of the nicest ones I've been in. It's part of Forestis in the Dolomites and I highly recommend adding that to your list of places to visit.
