Hinoki Forest Block
Product Details
A Forest Block made from real hinoki. Every block is made by a local woodworker in Japan from leftover pieces of hinoki that would otherwise go unused, so no two come out with quite the same grain or color.
It sits on your desk or nightstand as the reminder to stop and breathe. Add a few drops of Hinoki Oil, pick it up, breathe for five minutes, and put it back. Over time a little of the oil settles into the grain alongside the wood's own scent, and the block develops a scent that's all its own.
How It Works
Breath is the strongest signal you can send your nervous system, and scent is the fastest, because it reaches the emotional part of the brain without a detour. The block puts both in one place: a few fresh drops held close while you slow your breathing down. Put on the forest sounds in the free kimorii app and you've covered scent, breath and sound in five minutes.
How to Use
- Add 1 to 3 drops of Hinoki Oil to the top of the block.
- Give it a minute, then pick it up and breathe close: 4-4-4-4 through the day, 4-7-8 before bed.
- When you can't smell it anymore, add a fresh drop.

Made from what's left over.
Every block is made by a local woodworker in Japan from leftover pieces of hinoki that would otherwise go unused. It's the same wood Japan uses for shrines and onsen tubs, and because it's natural, no two blocks come out with quite the same grain or color.
How to use the Forest Block
Keep it where you'll see it: the desk, the nightstand, or packed in your bag.
A few drops
Add 1 to 3 drops of Hinoki Oil to the top of the block and give it a minute to settle into the wood.
Breathe close
Pick it up and hold it just under your nose. Five minutes of slow breathing is plenty: 4-4-4-4 through the day, or 4-7-8 before bed.
Touch + smell
Scent is the fastest signal you can send your nervous system, and the grain under your fingers adds a second one while you breathe.
One block. Multiple ways to use it.
Same block, same few drops. The difference is where it lives and what you pair it with.
The workday
The block next to your laptop is the reminder to slow the day back down.

Three signals,
one system
Your nervous system doesn't take instructions, it reads inputs. Hinoki is one of them, and the free kimorii app adds the other two: a breath that's paced for you and the sounds of a Japanese forest.

Common questions
The wood, the routine, and how the scent changes over time.
How is this different from the Cedar Forest Block?
It's the same idea in a different wood. The Cedar Forest Block is the one we started with, and the Hinoki Forest Block is cut from real hinoki, the same kind of tree the oil is distilled from, so the wood and the oil smell like they belong together from the first drop.
Where is it made?
By a local woodworker in Japan, from leftover pieces of hinoki that would otherwise go unused. It's natural wood, so every block varies a little in grain and color.
How many drops do I use?
One to three. Give them a minute to soak in, then pick the block up and breathe close. When you can't smell it anymore, add another drop.
How long does the scent last?
Longer than you'd expect, because the oil soaks into the wood instead of sitting on the surface, so the block holds the scent a lot longer than a diffuser would. Depending on the room, the airflow and how warm it is, it can last up to a couple of hours, with the scent slowly fading over that time.
Why does it smell different after a few months?
A little of the oil settles into the grain every time, and it mixes with the wood's own scent. Over months the block develops a scent of its own, which is why no two end up smelling exactly the same.
Do I need the app?
Can I put the oil on my skin?
We don't recommend it. Hinoki Oil is 100% pure and undiluted, and inhalation is where the research is anyway. Put it on the block and breathe it in.
